Moving Tips

Scheduling your move, packing up the boxes, getting everyone excited and ready to go…it’s exhausting.

There is so much to do and so little time to do it. How will you ever have it all done in time?

Don’t stress just yet. We can help!

At Capital City Transfer, we have seen people struggle with their moving to-do list time and time again. We want moving to be more about the destination than the stress of the move, so our Waukesha movers have put together some tips to help.

  • Plan Ahead- This is incredibly important. Planning ahead, especially for summer moves, will allow you to have peace of mind and give you confidence regarding the timeline. You want to have your move booked at least a month in advance.  If you are moving in summer, you’ll want it scheduled two months in advance.
  • Have a Game Plan- Packing is much more manageable if you have a game plan.  Have your boxes colored coded by room so you know where to put the boxes without opening them.
  • Pack Carefully- Make sure your fragile items are packed with care.  Wrap each item with bubble wrap, newspaper, or cloth. Be sure to stuff newspaper or cloth inside open containers like glasses and vases. Using sock is a great way to save on space. Also, stack plates vertically.  They are less likely to break.
  • Prepare Your Destination- Be sure to call your utility companies for your new home ahead of time.  You will want to have the HVAC, electricity, and water on when you get there. Before you leave your old home, be sure to have those utilities shut off.
  • Be Flexible- Things will happen during the moving process that will not be according to plan.  Be flexible and try to enjoy each step of the journey.
